Weekend Reflections for 4/17/15
Jesus came to two of his disciples on the road to Emmaus and brought them out of despair into joy and hope. They then went to the others--in a locked room--and told them " Jesus is alive!" But it took a visit from Jesus himself to bring them to believe that he was with them. He had to show them his wounds and feed them in order for them to believe that his presence was real, his love was deep.
On Holy Thursday of 2014 Pope Francis visited some young people in prison washed and kissed their feet. When he came through those locked doors his message and his appearance was like that of the risen Jesus. His words and his actions were meant to proclaim that our wounds, even our guilt, never keep Jesus away. In fact--as with the disciples in Jerusalem, the prisoners in Italy-- Jesus can hardly wait to be with us--and to share love and life and joy. And Jesus can hardly wait to see us do the same for one another
