Weekend Reflections for 7/10/15

"Jesus summoned the Twelve and began to send them out..."

Our scripture readings this month of July have to do with being sent by God to offer what God desires for all. What qualifies someone who works in a vineyard and cares for sheep (Amos) to be a prophet? Is theological knowledge or education the key to being sent by God to heal and strengthen others in their knowledge and love of God?

It is clear that the Twelve by their own knowledge or holiness could not do what the Gospel says they did: bring freedom and restoration to the ordinary people they met. According to the Gospel they took nothing with them but the commission from Jesus to do his work.

What qualifies us to answer the call that we have received comes not from external talents or gifts; it is our desire to think and act as Christ does and our faith that we will have what we need that empowers us to be, as St. Teresa of Avila says, "the hands and feet of Christ."

PLEASE PRAY FOR THOSE ON RETREAT THIS WEEK AS WELL AS OUR DECEASED RETREATANTS.
