The Body of Christ
"While they were eating, he took bread, said the blessing, broke it, gave it to them, and said, 'Take it; this is my body.'" (Mk 14:22)
When we gather as families to celebrate holidays, we often remember and share our family's stories and history. Our meals are usually family favorites made from Grandma's recipes. Even though our more than eccentric uncle is there, we try to make it a real experience of family love and sharing. That's what the Last Supper was all about.
Jesus and his apostles are sharing the Passover story of their people, remembering how Abba God rescued them from slavery and deprivation and led them to the Promised Land of freedom and abundance. The menu was set: lamb, unleavened bread, bitter herbs and wine. And, yes, Judas was there too.
When we gather at Eucharist, we re-enact that Supper. We remember and share in Jesus' act of supreme love, his total giving of himself on the cross and in the bread and wine. He wants to be with us always, physically and spiritually, even as our food and drink to nourish and strengthen us.
PLEASE PRAY FOR THOSE ON RETREAT THIS WEEK AS WELL AS OUR DECEASED RETREATANTS.
You are invited to join us at White House this Sunday June 7th at 4pm for our annual memorial service. We will be honoring those retreatants who passed away during 2014. The event will take place in our chapel.
PLEASE PRAY FOR PEACE IN OUR COMMUNITY
